Sepak Takraw - R8

  • Explain the physical activity you participated in.
Sepaktaraw is a similar game to Volleyball but without using your arms/hands. Sepaktaraw is game normally played in the Philippians, South East Asia. Here is a video of Sepaktaraw.
  • What level of effort and engagement were you participating at during today’s physical activity? Why? (Grade yourself NA, A or M and refer to marking criteria)
I give myself a merit because I played to my best quality with my friends as well. Even though it was a new game to me I tried my best in playing, I worked hard towards my goals by getting used to hitting it towards my opponents, I showed my enjoyment towards the game by wanting to play more and I wanted to improve my skills in Sepaktaraw by focusing on my kick.
  • What were three factors which influenced your participation? (Choose from the list below, and put a + or - beside the three factors to show whether it positively or negatively influenced your participation).
Equipment -, Previous Experiences -, Fun/Enjoyment +
  • Explain HOW these factors affected your participation (with specific examples)
Equipment affected my participation in a negative way because the ball was flat, which made my leg hurt whenever I kicked it. If the balls that were handed out a soft material and not too flat, my leg would be okay when kicking it. This will change my level of participation because it won't hurt. An example is when the ball was high in the sky, and I kicked it but it hurt my foot cause of the force of it coming down to my little foot.
Previous Experiences affected my participation in a negative way because of my passion for Volleyball, seeing Sepaktaraw is a similar game to Volleyball it was hard to concentrate on the proper rules. By saying this, I would get distracted and hit the ball with my hand, or pass the ball with my arms. This will make me lose focus, affecting my participation. An example was when the ball was a perfect set, but I went to go spike it instead.
Fun/Enjoyment affected my participation in a positive way because I was enjoying the vibe around me. There were lots of smiles from my classmates which enabled a happy vibe. Every game with happy vibes encourage me or others to have fun, which makes us play well. An example was when Kori didn't serve the ball properly multiple times, it was still okay because we were happy and having fun.
  • How could you increase your (or your peers) participation in this activity in the future? Something I would do to increase my participation is try and learn more things about Sepaktaraw and improve on it. This will make me become more confident with the game and my skills, therefore making me increase my participation.

Kia ora Autymn,
Sepaktaraw sounds like an interesting sport - one I've never heard of! I really like the way you have described your participation, including examples. Will you get more opportunities to play this sport again?
